CHANTILLY, VA – October 06, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Kraken Bond is directing homeowners preparing for the 2026–2027 heating season to its 22-piece Complete Insulation DIY Kit, a single-box weatherization package, as the first winter without the federal insulation tax credit begins. The credit for insulation materials expired on Dec. 31, 2025, changing the cost picture for residential air-sealing and insulation projects.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, known as Section 25C, applied to qualifying improvements made through Dec. 31, 2025. Homeowners could claim 30 percent of the cost of insulation and air-sealing materials, up to $1,200 per year. The credit had been scheduled to run through 2032 before federal tax legislation signed in July 2025 moved the end date forward.

State-administered alternatives are still taking shape. The federal Home Energy Rebate programs are run by individual states, and according to the Building Performance Association, twelve states and the District of Columbia had launched programs as of June 2026. West Virginia has launched its program since then, while other states remain in development. As a result, many households have no federal or state offset for insulation work this winter.
Labor now plays a larger role in project costs. Even under Section 25C, installation labor did not qualify for the credit; only materials were covered. With the materials incentive gone, homeowners comparing costs are weighing whether to handle smaller weatherization tasks themselves, such as sealing rim joists, attic penetrations and garage gaps.
The Complete Insulation DIY Kit groups the materials and tools for that type of work in one package. It includes 12 cans of closed-cell FastCoat spray foam, along with fire block foam, wide-spray foam sealant, RTV silicone and pest-barrier foam sealant, plus application tools and a protective equipment set. FastCoat carries a Class A fire rating under ASTM E84 and an R-value of 5.66 per inch.
“For much of 2025, insulation decisions were tied to a tax deadline,” said a spokesperson for Kraken Bond. “Now those decisions come down to how a home performs through the winter and how much of the work a homeowner is prepared to take on. That shift changes the questions people ask before they start a project.”
Spray foam application calls for ventilation, protective equipment and attention to the temperature ranges listed on product labels. Kraken Bond shares seasonal weatherization guidance and application tips through Kraken Bond on Facebook.
