Whether you’re welcoming a new family member, moving homes, or downsizing, navigating life’s major transitions can present some significant challenges. To address these hurdles, Maddi Matthews, professional organizer and founder of Open Window Organizing, hosted the inaugural “A New View on Downsizing” seminar on September 19th at the Dalhousie Community Association, drawing a full house of local seniors and their adult children.
Maddi’s goal is simple: Take the mystery out of downsizing so families can look forward to their next chapter.
Over coffee, pastries, and plenty of laughs, attendees learned some practical tips on decluttering, legal and financial considerations, and home buying options from a friendly panel of local experts, including a lawyer, realtor, estate consultant, and mortgage broker. Together, they tackled everything from deciding what to keep and what to pass along, to navigating real estate and legal details in a way that felt simple and approachable.
“Downsizing is so much more than sorting through boxes. It’s about helping people feel supported and confident as they step into a new season of their lives,” says Maddi Matthews. “We wanted to help empower Calgarians to approach downsizing with optimism and confidence, and the energy in the room was fantastic.”
Because the feedback was so overwhelmingly positive, Open Window Organizing is already putting together a second event for early November!
